Training Schemes

Rock Clinic Training Schemes

The Rock Clinic has a range of training schemes for those wanting to gain clinical experience either whilst competing their counselling or psychotherapy programmes or when working towards accreditation with BACP, UKCP, BPC, BPS and BACBP.

Applications are considered from those who have completed or are currently undergoing counselling training at Level 7 (Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters or NVQ Level 7) or psychoanalytic psychotherapy training at a similar level at an approved training organisation.

Applicants should be trained, or undergoing training, on a course with one or more of the following modalities: Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Systemic Couple and Family Therapy.

We welcome applications from those meeting the criteria for our schemes as outlined above.

We have currently finished our recruitment process for this year but please get in touch if you are interested in working with us in the future.

Trainee Counselling and Psychotherapy Scheme

For those who are currently studying on a recognised Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling or Psychotherapy course and who have completed a basic skills or introductory course, we are able to offer training placements for up to two years. This is designed to give you the 100 hours supervised clinical practice generally required by most local and national courses.

Trainee applicants should be studying one of more of the following modalities: Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Systemic Therapy.

All clients are offered an initial screening interview by a member of the assessment team, and taping is permitted subject to consent by the client. You will be expected to see up to 3 clients per week, attend fortnightly individual supervision, keep appropriate records and abide at all times by the BACP Ethical Framework.

Supervision is free and provided in house from one of the Clinic’s supervisory team - all of whom have a recognised qualification in clinical supervision.

Intermediate Counselling and Psychotherapy Scheme

For those who have completed their counselling course (or who are in their final months of psychotherapy training), we are able to offer a post qualification placement for up to two years. This is designed to give you the 450 hours of supervised clinical practice generally required for professional accreditation, and to help you to consolidate your therapeutic practice whilst also introducing you to private work.

You will be expected to see up to 8 clients per week, though a reduced caseload may be negotiated with the Clinical Director, attend fortnightly individual supervision, keep appropriate records and abide at all times by the BACP Ethical Framework.

There are also opportunities for carrying out assessments, as all clients are offered an initial screening interview by a member of the assessment team.

Supervision is charged at £50.00 and provided in house from one of the Clinic’s supervisory team - all of whom have a recognised qualification in clinical supervision.

Intermediate applicants will have completed counselling training at Level 7 (Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters or NVQ Level 7). Applicants should be trained or undergoing further training on a course with one or more of the following modalities: Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Systemic Couple and Family Therapy.
